I have found that Reflexology pressure point massage will instantly stop the muscle spasm and pain. The area to massage is at the back of the heel below the Achilles tendon. When you find an intensely sore spot, massage and increase the pressure as the pain subsides. You will probably find more than one sore spot. Massage them all.

My husband sits on a heating pad or in a tub of hot water. That seems to help him.
